Environment Canada, the equivalent to the National Weather Service for our neighbors to the north, issued a special weather statement for much of southern British Columbia on Thursday afternoon to let everyone know that it's going to be sunny this weekend.

Special weather statement in effect for:

  • Metro Vancouver

Sunny weekend ahead for the B.C. South Coast.

A ridge of high pressure will build over British Columbia this weekend. The ridge will provide mainly sunny conditions to all South Coast regions. Temperatures will be three to five degrees above average with daytime highs in the upper teens across inland areas.

Enjoy the weekend because cooler, wet conditions will return on Monday.

Please monitor the latest forecasts and warnings from Environment Canada at www.weatheroffice.gc.ca.

According to Environment Canada's website, special weather statements are intended to "explain weather situations that may not be adequately described in" its regular forecasts, such as the potential for severe thunderstorms, intense winter storms, or explain "unusual weather" events like waterspouts or dust devils.

Stay strong, British Columbians.
