On Friday, a raging wildfire burned cars stranded on I-15 near Los Angeles while crews battled drones to put out the flames. On Saturday, part of I-10 collapsed as Los Angeles and San Diego recorded the most rain they’ve ever seen during the month of July. Oh, you know, just another weekend.

Numerous fires are burning across portions of the Plains this afternoon, including one north of Oklahoma City that officials are describing as quite large. This animated satellite image shows where the fires are located (bright spots), followed by a visible satellite image showing the smoke spreading northeast.

A quick glance at the National Weather Service's site this afternoon shows almost no weather going on across the country. It's a gorgeous, warm May afternoon for a huge chunk of the U.S. The only problem is that this lack of active weather is a breeding ground for wildfires.
