Today's Dust Storm in Texas Showed Up on Radar and Satellite
A strong cold front moving across northwestern Texas earlier today brought with it 30 to 40 MPH winds that caused yet another dust storm (called a "haboob") that was large and dense enough to show up on both radar (above) and satellite imagery (below).
Even though the blowing dust dropped visibility to nearly zero in some locations across the Texas Panhandle, no major disruptions were reported by news stations in Amarillo or Lubbock.
Many areas across Texas are experiencing severe to "exceptional" drought conditions, allowing strong winds to easily pick up the dry, loose top soil and carry it along in the form of a dust storm.
