The world's largest thermometer reopened in Baker, California yesterday, reminding people in the middle of the Mojave Desert that it gets hot in the middle of the Mojave Desert.

The landmark sits on Interstate 15 between Los Angeles and Las Vegas as a monument to the country's hottest temperature ever recorded, 134°F in Death Valley back on July 10, 1913. The thermometer is a 134-foot-tall concrete pillar adorned with more than 5,000 light bulbs; its height pays homage to the record reading 101 years ago.

The thermometer underwent renovations after "falling into disrepair in recent years," according to the Associated Press, and reopened yesterday to celebrate the 101st anniversary of the country's hottest-ever temperature.

If you're one of the millions of people rushing to the desert to see the architectural wonder, I suggest you stop at some of Baker's many fine establishments, such as Arby's. I hear the food is "food."
