A meteorologist on board an American Eagle jet taxiing to the runway in Abilene, Texas yesterday took a video of golf ball size hail pounding the Embraer ERJ-145 for more than seven minutes while they sat on the taxiway. The plane had to turn back to the gate because of the damage.

The city of 117,000 in central Texas experienced an incredible hailstorm yesterday, with multiple reports (and photos) of softball- to DVD-size hail falling as a result of a powerful supercell thunderstorm. This hail is about as big as it can get without breaking records.

Some parts of the country could see hail larger than golf balls later today, including Lubbock, Texas and Rapid City, South Dakota.
