An enormous mudslide that's reported to be 4 miles long, 2 miles wide, and around 250 feet deep occurred Sunday night in Mesa County, Colorado, a few dozen miles to the east of Grand Junction. As of 10PM MDT, 3 people were unaccounted for.

The eastern Pacific's Hurricane Amanda exploded into an intense category 4 hurricane last night with winds of 155 MPH. The storm's strength makes it the most intense hurricane ever recorded during the month of May in the eastern Pacific. Thankfully, Amanda poses no threat to land.

A non-tropical low pressure system is swirling off the coast of New England this evening. It's not very strong — only 1004 millibars — but it looks pretty cool on visible satellite imagery.

A flash flood warning is in effect for areas around and including New York City and Newark, New Jersey as a slow-moving thunderstorm continues to drop a relatively large amount of rain in a short period of time. 2-3 inches of rain have fallen near Newark in the past few hours.

A thunderstorm near Spartanburg, South Carolina just dropped 2.50" hail. That's the size of a tennis ball. Another severe storm, pictured above, is approaching Myrtle Beach at 5:05PM. If you live in the Carolinas, especially along/east of I-85 in South Carolina and along I-95 in North Carolina, keeps a close watch on the storms this evening.

Rounding out a week of severe weather notable for the incredible amounts of hail it produced — from 5" of hail accumulation in Denver to near-softball size hail falling in New York — it's the eastern Carolinas' turn today to see hail possibly up to the size of baseballs.

NASA released satellite images that show the extent of the historic flooding in the Balkans, which is responsible for the deaths of dozens and countless millions in property damage.
