DirecTV and WeatherNation have signed a 'multi-year' deal to keep the fledgling weather network on the satellite provider's channel lineup, according to a joint press release from the two companies.

WeatherNation TV, the competitor network to The Weather Channel that was thrust into the national spotlight after the latter got booted from DirecTV over a contract dispute, announced on Monday that the fledgling network will now reach almost 8 million Roku devices with the launch of its new streaming service on the platform.

In what appears to be blatant angling to acquire naming rights to Syfy's next godawful movie about winter storms full of tribbles or whatever, The Weather Channel named this week's major snowstorm "Winter Storm Vulcan," because they really want us to take them seriously.

Variety reports that The Weather Channel will roll out four new reality and entertainment shows later this year in what seems to be a television programmer's version of the middle finger to critics of the 32-year-old network.

Like a jilted lover bent on revenge, The Weather Channel is far from getting over its nasty breakup with DirecTV this past January. The Atlanta-based weather network filed an official complaint with the Federal Communications Commission on February 7, alleging that its replacement network on DirecTV — WeatherNation, which broadcasts to over 20 million homes in the United States — puts deaf and hard of hearing viewers at risk with its sometimes wildly inaccurate closed captioning.
