Monsoon season is in full swing across parts of the western United States as areas from Nevada to Oklahoma — including most of the state of Colorado — are under a flash flood watch for the next couple of days. Parts of the region could see three to four inches of rain by the time the event is over on Wednesday.

Slow-moving thunderstorms around Colorado Springs this afternoon dumped enormous amounts of rain over the region in a short period of time, leading to dangerous flash flooding across the area. One resident of the city took this incredible video of the water pounding a bridge with the fury of Niagara Falls.

Parts of eastern Colorado just went under severe thunderstorm watch number 420, and all is right in the world.

WeatherNation reports that one woman is dead and seven more were injured in Colorado's Rocky Mountain National Park due to a lightning strike this afternoon. This is the eighth lightning-related death in the United States so far this year.
